Besides her commitment to being at the cutting edge of vitreoretinal and cataract surgery and medical retina therapies, Dr Nikolle Tan also finds time to help the less fortunate. She has participated in numerous eye camps in Myanmar, Bangladesh, China and Nepal, during which she performed cataract operations free of charge.
She is also trained in low cost manual small incision cataract surgery, a technique very useful in rural areas where resources and facilities are limited. In fact, Dr Nikolle Tan is an instructor in masterclasses on this surgical technique at the annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
